As the planning for Horizon Virtual Summer Camp 2021 is underway, I cannot help but to reflect on the summer of 2020. The thought of pivoting to an all virtual experience brought with it so much sadness and uncertainty. Mainly, because it meant that I would not be seeing so many of my beloved friends in person. It took many conference calls and endless threads of emails. Nonetheless, everyone that makes Horizon camp the family that it is came together and pulled it off. Horizon Camp met without fail the third week of July. Games like Bingo and Trivia had a little added flavor and even more laughter involved.
Personally, my proudest moment of virtual camp was taking part in karaoke for the first time as a camper. Trust me, it was harder than it looks. The virtual Friendship Dance was the bow that tied off a fabulous week of breakfast hangouts, arts and crafts and late night conversations. I was even blessed with a surprise window visit from two fellow Horizonettes that live nearby. I can only imagine what activities are in store for this summer. As I start the countdown to another virtual summer experience. I am beyond excited to create new memories while still being among my Horizon family.
