Thank you to everyone who attended Horizon’s first Tastefully Simple/Cocktail Party on Saturday, December 4, hosted by Kathy Kingston & Geri Skudney. It was a great time and it’s always good when we are raising money for Horizon!
Also a big thank you to Amy from the Tuscan Market and Wine Shop, in Arlington Heights, for allowing us to have the party there.
Saturday, November 20 was the day many Horizon members started their holiday shopping. The day started early with several of the members gathering at the Hampton Inn conference room for a quick breakfast before heading to Gurnee Mills Mall. Everyone who attended received a nice gift bag with some holiday treats and the campers had a special treat in their bags, courtesy of PNC Bank. After we collected all our bargains from the mall, it was time to head back to the Hampton Inn for Horizon’s version of a holiday meal prepared by Boston Market. Once dinner was over everyone enjoyed each other’s company while playing games, wrapping gifts, or just telling stories and laughing until we cried. As usual, this event was a lot of fun for everyone in attendance. Hope to see you next year!

Well we did it! The Association of Horizon, Inc has joined forces with 3E Love, LLC to give you the opportunity to show your Horizon pride.
We are selling a long sleeve t-shirt ($18) and short sleeve t-shirt ($16) in navy blue with our name and logo on the front left chest screen printed in white. The back has the now famous saying that was posted at camp this year and at the end of our video, “Nobody has a disability. Everyone has ability. Let’s find it.”

We have been getting some great activity on our GoodSearch page. I think it’s awesome how the members of this organization have stepped up and started doing this. The official start to our 2009 camp season began Saturday at the Recruitment Kickoff Party at Hackney’s Glenview. Thank you to those who came out in the snowy weather to enjoy some time with their Horizon friends and to fill out their camp applications.
The application is now available on-line too. Since space is limited and we are anticipating a large number of new camper applicants, we have decided to fill spaces with previous Horizon campers up to March 10th. After March 10th we will begin to fill the remaining spaces on a first come, first served basis. If you are a new camper to our program, you can still submit your application before March 10th. You will be placed on a list according to date received and after March 10th we will fill remaining spaces from the list till we are full.
The annual Horizon Holiday Shop with a Friend Weekend is just a few weeks away. Come join us for a day of shopping at Gurnee Mills and an evening of fun at the Hampton Inn. The day will begin at 9:00 sharp in the conference room at the Hampton Inn with a continental breakfast. You will be given coupon books to use at the mall and rules for the contest we have. Then it’s time to shop, shop, shop. Afterward, we’ll meet back at the hotel for pizza, present wrapping, contest winners & more.
If you would like to join us overnight at the hotel, you must reserve your room by October 24th.

Horizon’s 11th Annual Night at the Races is quickly approaching. This has been our biggest fundraiser for the past 7 or 8 years and we need your to help keep the streak alive. We still have seats available for the wonderful 2 hour buffet overlooking the racetrack at Balmoral Park. We have had four drawings so far (one monthly & three weekly) and one of the numbers has already hit twice! Tracy B has lucky number 638, which was our first monthly drawing winner on the August 1st mid-day drawing and the August 15th Friday evening weekly winner! Our other weekly winners are Joe G (Friday, August 1st ) and Kathleen Q (Friday, August 8th ).
