We have been getting some great activity on our GoodSearch page. From June to July we doubled our searches and this month we have broken our previous record for searches again! We have 1052 searches this month and counting. I think it’s awesome how the members of this organization have stepped up and started doing this. Keep spreading the word, the more people we turn on to this simple way to support Horizon, the better! Don’t forget about GoodShop too, there are hundreds of stores to shop through. The link is right on the GoodSearch page.

We have had four drawings so far (one monthly & three weekly) and one of the numbers has already hit twice! Tracy B has lucky number 638, which was our first monthly drawing winner on the August 1st mid-day drawing and the August 15th Friday evening weekly winner! Our other weekly winners are Joe G (Friday, August 1st ) and Kathleen Q (Friday, August 8th ). Be sure to check back weekly to see the newest winners by clicking the Horizon Lottery Winners link under the Fundraising tab above.
We still have a few tickets (and 64 more chances to win) remaining, so if you want a chance to get in on the action e-mail Geri.Skudney@associationofhorizon.org to get a ticket before they are all gone!

Horizon moves its beach party to Montrose Beach. This year’s get together will be held on Saturday, August 9. It will be a traditional picnic, so please bring a dish or snack to share with others. Friends and family are welcome. Montrose Beach is a large site, so please look for more details on our web site as they become available.

Another week of summer camp has come and gone. This was our 18th and they keep getting better. 2008 was our largest camp population to date. Horizon thanks all of the volunteers, sponsors & donors that helped put it all together. A great job done by all and I am already looking forward to meeting up with my new friends throughout the year.

Be a part of a new fundraising tool we are trying out for Horizon!
We are running a raffle that lasts for an entire year - August 1, 08 thru July 31, 09.
There are 68 chances to win!
52 weekly winners ($50), 12 monthly winners ($100) & 4 quarterly winners ($250).
The cost of a ticket is $10 and only 1000 tickets are being sold (and must be sold by Aug 1).
The tickets are numbered 000 - 999 and the winners are based on the IL Lottery numbers drawn for the specified time and date (see sample ticket below for more information).
We are hoping we can count on you to purchase and/or help sell a few.

Only 10 days until Horizon Summer Camp becomes a mini Las Vegas getaway. The camp committee has worked hard and have planned a lot of exciting activities for the week. Thanks to the hard work from the recruitment committee, this year summer camp will be are largest with a love of new participants. Even though, we have filled all our spaces there are still opportunities for you to become involved. On Saturday afternoon July 12, Horizon will be setting up camp for the week and we could use some help for a few hours. More importantly on Saturday, July 19 we have the task of cleaning up camp and repacking the shed, and we could always use extra hands to help.
Visitors day it is on Friday, July 18. Please let us know if you are able to come down and would like to have dinner with us. Finally one last way to help with this year summer camp is to donate a Sam’s Club or Wal-Mart gift card. Even a little $10 gift card can go a long way in helping us cut some of our costs. If you would like to help, planning on visiting or want to donate a gift card please e-mail Michael.Trimpe@associationofhorizon.org by July 9 and I will get back to you right away. And remember “what happens at Camp Horizon stays at Camp Horizon”

2008 Horizon Summer Camp is less than a month away. You’re immunization is working hard planning this year’s event and have wonderful ideas to support this year’s theme “LAS VEGAS.” We still need 5 female & 10 male volunteers, so if you are able to volunteer, please send in your application. Applications are available online under activities on the camp page and can be downloaded or completed online. This year you’re able to view who has already registered and encourage your friends to sign up. If you are able only to participate for part of the week, please contact us and we might be able to find someone to help with the rest of the week. Horizon needs help setting up on July 13 and cleaning up Saturday, July 19. For more information, please contact Michael.Trimpe@associationofhorizon.org. The organization is also requesting gift cards from Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club or Jewel to help offset our barbecue costs. Thank you.

The Association of Horizon, Inc. will be holding its 6th annual golf outing on Saturday, June 14. Golf will begin at 2 p.m. and followed by our Hawaiian Luau celebration. Horizon has been working hard to plan this event and we are looking for fellow members to help volunteer for the event. There is a lot involved in making our fundraiser successful. Whether you are able to volunteer just part of the afternoon or evening or the entire day, we have something for you to do. The committee is currently looking for volunteers to help sit on some holes to witness a hole-in-one opportunities.

Congratulations Kara Stout. Kara is the winner of Horizon’s inaugural Horizon Hope Grant program. This year there were several applicants and it was difficult choosing just one. Kara is currently going to school to become an Occupational Therapist and she will apply the grant towards her college tuition. The 2009 Horizon Hope application will be available online soon. This years award was presented at the Spring for Horizon benefit held March 29. To see pictures of this year’s event please click on the gallery link.
