The following committees are an excellent way to become more involved with Horizon!
Our organization has several committees that help organize our activities. The following are brief descriptions of each committee. If you are interested in volunteering for any of these, please leave your name, number and a brief message on our hotline 773-477-5170.
Camp Committee –This committee works year-round to plan our annual Summer Camp. They meet approximately once a month to discuss all the details in order for our program to be a success. Along with planning all of the technical things, this committee works hard finding activities for everyone to participate in during camp. The committee plans everything from workshops & seminars, to providing evening entertainment including bands and a DJ for Friday’s dance party. All committee members get the hands-on experience of planning a big event. Once the Summer Camp program begins, it is obvious why the committee enjoys their work. Newsletter Committee — This committee edits, designs, prints and mails our quarterly newsletter. They encourage people to write articles, gather the articles and place them in our newsletter layout. Once they have the layout completed, they double check the articles and have the newsletters printed and mailed. To see past newsletters, visit newsletters.

Recruitment Committee – The dedicated individuals on this committee work on finding volunteers to assist at our Summer and Fall Weekend Camp programs and other events throughout the year. Without volunteers it would be impossible to have our Camp programs. This committee sends out applications and review all applicants, then informs attendants of their responsibilities. This committee also works to find individuals that would like to participate in our Camp programs. They review applications and talk with individuals to let them know the campers responsibilities at Camp. The committee works to ensure that all prospective individuals meet our camper criteria and that the we can accommodate their needs. Need more information, visit Recruitment.

Throughout the year Horizon hold fund-raising events such as A Night at the Races, Golf Outing & Banquet, Spring for Horizon, Candle Sales and Jewel Shop & Share Days just to name a few. Fund-raising is an important aspect of the organization, without the hard work of individuals during these times, it would be impossible for Horizon to continue its operations and offer the variety of programs. Horizon is always looking for new members to join a current fund-raising committee or motivated people with new ideas to help. For more information, please e-mail Mike or Geri.
Spring for Horizon — is a semi formal benefit that includes appetizers, drinks, dinner, live and silent auctions, as well as live music. The committee begins planning over the summer in order to have the event ready by March each year. Members work hard to organize everything from selecting a theme, collecting donations and finding little touches that make the evening special. The committee and volunteers also work very hard during the event to ensure all entertainment transitions smoothly and all guests are having an enjoyable evening. Golf Outing Committee – The Golf committee is in charge of organizing Horizon’s Golf Outing & Hawaiian Luau. The committee starts meeting in September to plan for the event which will take place Saturday, June 13 2009. The committee needs volunteers and assistance in several areas. The organization can use new contacts for possible sponsorships or prize donations, before the date of the event. On the day of the event, the committee needs volunteers to help with several aspects of the event. The Golf Outing needs the volunteers to help with registration, different golf contests and people to help out on the course itself. For the Hawaiian Luau, volunteers can assist with decorating the room, registration, help selling raffle tickets and prizes, and even with the silent auction items. Night at the Races — The Night at the Races is Horizon’s biggest fundraiser and continues to grow each year. The committee works year-round and meets about once a month to plan everything for the upcoming years event. We are always looking for volunteers that would like to join the committee. The committee needs individuals to help solicit donations for prizes and sponsorships. As the event gets closer, help is needed in packaging prizes and the day of the event help is needed for the set up. The committee also needs assistance with selling raffle tickets, day of prizes and distributing prizes to the winners at the event.
