Roles & Responsibilities

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Horizon volunteers work tirelessly throughout the year to raise funds and ensure that every camper can attend summer camp without worrying about the expense of room and board.  When it comes to making this happen, there is no limit to the number of volunteers needed for Horizon to continue offering summer camp and other activities throughout the year.

Summer Camp Attendant

Who can volunteer?
Anyone, 16 years or older, who can donate a week of their time and energy. No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness to help. Ask about Horizon’s community service hours program.

What if I don’t have any experience assisting adults with disabilities?
Several orientation sessions are held prior to camp to help prepare new volunteers. Topics include expectations of volunteers and participants (campers), roles & responsibilities at camp, daily routine, rules & regulations, etc. Once at camp, a more detailed orientation session is held. At this time the roles and expectations of individual camper & volunteer pairs are discussed.

How do I volunteer?
If your interested in volunteering for summer camp or have questions please contact our volunteer recruitment committee on the hotline or e-mail them below. All participants are required to submit an application by the deadline date. Volunteers under 18 years of age are required to have the consent of an adult or legal guardian.

Other Horizon Volunteer Opportunities
As a volunteer organization Horizon needs help raising funds, recruiting campers/volunteers and planning our Summer Camp Program.

Over the years, Horizon has benefited by generous donations from local businesses. Horizon often needs individuals to help pick up these items and deliver them to camp.

Throughout the year Horizon holds events that need volunteers to assist in setting up and cleaning up afterward. Some of these events include the Golf Outing & Banquet, Candlelight Bowl and Spaghetti Dinner.
